A Town Planned in the 1950s
Developer Jay Stream incorporated the village in 1959 and named it for his daughter, Carol, according to Choose DuPage. It was planned so residents could work close to home, and that idea still shows: the village counts more than 1,000 businesses and over 20 million square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space, with a daytime population of about 44,200. If your shift or office is here, a trainer can come to your workplace, where your employer allows it, instead of adding a drive to your day.
Apartments and Townhomes Next to Houses
About 48 percent of local housing units are detached houses, CMAP's June 2026 snapshot shows, but the rest is varied: roughly 18 percent townhomes and attached homes, 12.5 percent in buildings of 10 to 19 units and 11 percent in buildings of 20 or more. About a third of occupied homes are rented. So a session could just as easily happen in an apartment living room or a complex fitness center as in a basement. Where your building allows outside trainers, its gym is fair game; otherwise your trainer brings the equipment the program needs.
Forty Parks and the Great Western Trail
The Carol Stream Park District manages about 420 acres, including 40 parks and playgrounds, 11 miles of trails and 13 fishing platforms. Armstrong Park, at 391 Illini Drive, takes its name from astronaut Neil Armstrong. The village also sits on the Great Western Trail, a nearly 14-mile county rail-trail from Villa Park to West Chicago built on the old Chicago Great Western right of way. A trainer can meet you outdoors on any of them for walking intervals and bodyweight circuits.
