Where Riverview Park Used to Stand
From 1904 until it closed after the 1967 season, Riverview amusement park filled land in what is now Roscoe Village. Part of that site is today Clark Park, a 22-acre Park District park at 3400 N. Rockwell on the east bank of the Chicago River. It has a public boat launch, canoe and kayak rentals at the WMS Boathouse, a turf field, a bike trail and The Garden, a free set of dirt jumps with a pump track. The park's open space gives trainers room for sprints and conditioning work close to home.
Roscoe Street and the Blocks Around It
Roscoe Village has no official boundary, but Chicagoans generally place it between Belmont Avenue and Addison Street, from Ravenswood Avenue west to the river. It sits inside the North Center community area, and the Encyclopedia of Chicago lists it among that area's newly designated neighborhoods. Roscoe Street mixes businesses and residences, and many homes date from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Across the community area, 43 percent of homes are in two- to four-unit buildings. Your trainer plans workouts around a flat's living room just as easily as a single-family house.
Hamlin Park and the Brown Line
Hamlin Park sits two blocks south of Belmont at 3035 N. Hoyne, with Damen Avenue along its east side. Its fieldhouse, designed by Prairie School architect Dwight H. Perkins, holds a fitness center and two gyms, and the park adds a pool, tennis courts and a dog-friendly area. For trains, Paulina on the Brown Line, at 3410 N. Lincoln, is near the neighborhood's eastern edge, and the Addison Brown Line stop is at 1818 W. Addison. If something comes up, give us 24 hours' notice and we'll reschedule.

North Center is the official community area, and Roscoe Village is one neighborhood inside it, covering roughly Belmont to Addison. The blocks north of Addison are usually called Northcenter, which we cover on a separate page.
Can we meet at Clark Park instead of my home?
Yes. A trainer can meet you outdoors in a nearby park, and Clark Park at 3400 N. Rockwell has open field space along the river. Sessions are insured wherever they take place.
