Four square miles of single-family homes
The village covers about four square miles, and about 94 percent of its homes are detached single-family houses. Nearly six in ten have four or more bedrooms. That makes in-home training simple to arrange: a session can take place in a spare room, a finished lower level, the garage or the backyard, and your trainer brings the equipment, so you do not need a home gym to begin. Sessions are insured, and moving one only takes 24 hours' notice.
Camp meeting roots, an uptown district and the UP-N
The village grew from the Lake Bluff Camp Meeting Association, formed in 1875 when Methodist ministers bought 100 acres of lakefront land, and summer visitors of that era came for the beach and ravines. Its history notes that a brick railroad station went up in 1904; today Metra's Union Pacific North line stops at 600 Sheridan Road. The Uptown Commercial Historic District is listed on the National Register. Drivers reach the village from Route 43, Route 176, Sheridan Road, U.S. Route 41 and Green Bay Road, so a trainer can get to you from several directions.
Sunrise Beach, Oriole Grove and two bike paths
The village park district's Sunrise Beach sits at the foot of the bluff. It is reached by stairs or a paved road, and the park district posts any access changes on its website. Along the Skokie River, Oriole Grove, an 86-acre Lake County preserve locally known as Jensen Woods, straddles the Lake Forest border with 1.35 miles of grass trails reached from Lake Bluff Open Lands on Rockland Road. The village also lists the North Shore Bike Path and the Robert McClory Bike Path among its routes, and about a quarter of its land is open space and parks.
