Factory Lofts and Newer Mid-Rises
The housing here grew out of industry. The Encyclopedia of Chicago notes that West Town's early settlers were drawn to factories near the river. Many small factories, several in woodworking, closed or left in the 1970s, and several large loft buildings in the neighborhood were converted to homes in the mid-1980s. In the Fulton River District, low- and mid-rise lofts became condos and apartments, joined later by townhomes and high-rises. That range means you might train in a building gym or in a big open room at home. Either way, the equipment comes with your trainer.
Blue Line, Kennedy and a Walk to Ogilvie
Transit is close at hand. The Blue Line stops at Grand (502 N. Milwaukee) and Chicago (800 N. Milwaukee), with direct service to the Loop and O'Hare, and the Kennedy Expressway (I-90) runs through West Town. To the south, the Green and Pink Line Clinton station at 540 W. Lake connects to Ogilvie and Metra's Union Pacific lines. If your office is downtown, a session can happen there instead of at home. Need to move one? Give 24 hours' notice.
Eckhart Park and the North Branch
For outdoor work, Eckhart Park at 1330 W. Chicago Ave. covers 8.85 acres with baseball fields, a football and soccer field and an outdoor basketball court, plus an indoor pool and fitness center in its buildings. East across the North Branch, Ward Park at 630 N. Kingsbury has a riverside promenade with benches, shade trees and skyline views. Your trainer can use either one for sprints, field drills or a long walk by the water, then finish with a stretch.

River West personal training FAQ
Which community area is River West in?
It is part of the West Town community area. River West is generally described as west of the North Branch of the Chicago River and east of the Kennedy Expressway, between Grand Avenue and Division Street, though definitions vary.
Is the Fulton River District the same as River West?
They overlap. The Fulton River District is usually described as the area between the river and the Kennedy from Ohio Street south to Madison Street, which places it partly in West Town and partly in the Near West Side.
My building used to host a Chitown Trainer resident program. Can I still train?
Yes. Over the years we've run resident fitness programs in buildings such as Kenect, Spoke and Mondial. Those programs have ended, but any resident can book one-on-one or small-group training at home or in a building gym that allows outside trainers.
