Office sessions along the tollway corridor
Oak Brook grew up around two tollways. The Encyclopedia of Chicago ties the village's 1958 incorporation to the Tri-State and East-West tollways and to Marshall Field & Company's land purchase for the Oakbrook Shopping Center, which opened in 1962, and corporate offices followed. Retail and office buildings now line 22nd Street and the I-88 corridor. If you work in one of them, a trainer can come to your office and run the session in a conference room or an on-site fitness space your employer allows, so a workout fits between meetings instead of after a drive to a gym.
Fullersburg Woods, York Woods and Mayslake
Salt Creek runs through Oak Brook, and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County operates three preserves inside the village. Fullersburg Woods covers 220 acres off Spring Road, with a 1.3-mile interpretive trail through lowland woods and restored prairie and Graue Mill, the only operating waterwheel gristmill in Illinois. York Woods, entered from Harger Road west of York Road, has a paved loop of about a mile and a 0.6-mile section of the Salt Creek Greenway Trail. Mayslake, on 31st Street west of Route 83, adds a one-mile trail around its lakes. Any of the three can host an outdoor session.
Setting up sessions in Oak Brook houses and townhomes
CMAP's 2026 snapshot shows 80 percent of Oak Brook homes are single-family detached houses, with attached townhomes at about 8 percent and buildings of 20 or more units at about 12 percent. The median home was built in 1979, and fewer than 1 percent predate 1940. A basement, garage bay or spare room can serve as the training space, and your trainer brings the equipment the program needs. In a condo or townhome community with its own fitness room, sessions can happen there where the association's rules permit.
